EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES WITH MARINA / LEISURE HARBORS

Founded by proposal of several European Mayors of different Municipalities present at the 1st European Congress of Places with Marina/Yachting Harbour, which took place in Lagos, Algarve, at 27/29th of October 1997. It was registered in 1999.

The regulations of the association were proposed and approved by all founders, rectified unanimously by the General Council in April 1999 and altered during the 1st extraordinary General Council in Gent, Belgium, at the 15th of May 2002.

There are Delegations in Athens,Greece ; Gent, Belgium ; Horta-Azores, Portugal ; Lisbon, Portugal ; Quartu Sant’Elena , Italy and Villeneuve-Loubet , Côte d'Azur, France .Aghios Nikolaos ,Crete , Greece .
At this moment AEMA has 40 municipalitie s associated, in Belgium, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Italy , Portugal and Turkey.

The association publishes every year a “Year Book” . In this, besides the more relevant information about achieved activities and the ones which should be still done, it promotes, without costs for the members, in two pages A4 / each Member , all associated Municipalities with Marinas and recreation harbours which exist in the geographical area under its administration. This publication is sent for free to all members and about 500 Municipalities, ports and harbours of Europe.
The association sponsors the " European Meetings of Members of AEMA and Popular Culture Groups of those Regions " . The III Meeting took place in 2005 in Portugal .

The association participates and supports the realization , every two years , the European Congress for Places with Marina/Leisure Harbours - an extensive study meeting and reflection about themes and subjects with a special interest and importance for them in particular , and for nautical tourism in general.
The 2nd Congress took place in Lavrion, Greece, in May 2000;
The 3rd Congress in Gent, Belgium, in May 2002;
The 4th Congress in Horta, Açores in May 2004;
The 5th Congress is in Villeneuve-Loubet, Côte d’Azur in France in, May 2006.
The I AEMA's Seminar took place in Rovinj ,Croatia , in 2007
The 6th Congress was in Funchal ,Madeira , Portugal , in May, 15/21 2008
The 7th Congress will be in Aghios Nikolaos ,Crete .Greece in 2010

To become Member of AEMA is necessary to request it to the Management Board and with it to pay the Registration fee.

ASSOCIATION
AEMA is an association of a European nature; performing its activity independent of any national or European public or privation organizations; it shall respond in civil law before the appropriate organizations for existing purposes and in criminal law, in accordance with applicable Portuguese legislation. it shall not pursue aims of a party, religious or profit-making nature.

MISSION
A.E.M.A. purposes:
1 – Promote under a very deep way, the contacts and institutional relationships between them members.
2 – To support the effective execution and dissemination of conclusions, suggestions and recommendations of our Congress and Seminars.
3 – Develop and communicate all the activities that get to our knowledge on Harbors initiatives, that will be produced in our geographic area of influence.
4 - Represent or support common intends from members, nearby other Entities at national or international level.

STATUES
Rights of A.E.M.A. members:
1 – Elect and be elect for the Social Bodies of our Association, trough credentialed representatives.
2 – Receive all the studies, Works, Research results from initiatives developed trough or under the support of A.E.M.A.
3 – Demand information about the functioning and activities that AEMA execute for the persecution of our objectives and received in an adequate time.
4 – Suggest the execution of activities, works, studies, researches that will be considered important for new orientations, purposes, or ambitions in an route for the construction of new harbors or marinas.
5 – Participate in all the meetings of the General Board of the Association.
6 – According the Statutes, demand for extraordinary meetings of he General Board.
7 – Present suggestions, well supported, the adhesion, suspension or exclusion, of the Association members.
